Admission to the PhD program in Curriculum and Teaching, offered through the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, is highly selective and determined by a comprehensive evaluation of applicants’ professional objectives, academic and vocational backgrounds, demonstrated competencies, and dispositional factors indicative of potential success within the program.

Application Requirements
To apply, students submit a non-refundable application fee of $50 and the following materials through the Graduate School Application portal prior to the deadline. Applications are reviewed holistically by the Graduate Program Director and the Graduate Faculty Committee.

Materials
- A professionally presented curriculum vitae or résumé.
- A statement of purpose including the applicant’s professional interest, background, aspirations, and qualifications.
- GRE scores from within the last five years.
- Transcripts showing earlier graduate work and master’s degree confirmation from regionally accredited institutions.
- Letters of Reference from the following recommenders:
- A person who has monitored the applicant’s teaching skills
- Someone familiar with the applicant’s professional goals
- Someone familiar with the applicant’s academic potential, such as a former professor
- Other evidentiary documentation to support your application.
Admissions Process
The Graduate Faculty Committee will begin reviewing applications beginning mid-December through early spring. Upon initial review, Applicants may be invited for a virtual structured interview with departmental faculty including a faculty member in your area of interest and one in another area. After the faculty review period, decisions are released by March 1st.
The Ideal PhD Applicant Profile
Successful applicants for the Curriculum and Teaching PhD at Baylor have a strong academic record and promising academic aptitude, successful experience teaching in a P–12 setting, and a passion and commitment for leading future generations of teachers.
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and foundational communications, especially in their writing. Prospective students are expected to hold dispositions relevant to being an ethically principled teacher educator and researcher.
Applicants’ areas of research interest should have a reasonable fit with the Curriculum & Instruction Faculty who have capacity for doctoral advising for the next application cycle.
