Baylor Graduate School Benefits & Financial Support
Graduate Assistantships
There are limited Graduate Assistant (GA) positions available to support full-time PhD students. GAs assist professors with research, teach courses in Baylor’s teacher-education program, or work in one of Baylor’s Professional Development Schools. Although specific responsibilities vary, the number of hours required by the department will typically not exceed 20 hours per week to protect doctoral students from excessive commitments away from research and study.
GA stipends are competitive with other leading universities. In addition to stipends, GAs receive various amounts of additional tuition remission.
Graduate Teaching Assistants
To be considered for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, doctoral students must have earned at least eighteen graduate semester hours within their teaching discipline.
Graduate Research Assistants
Graduate Research Assistantships primarily involve graduate students paired in research with a graduate faculty member or in independent research under the supervision of a graduate faculty member.
In addition to Graduate Assistantships, students may be able to work on grant projects administered by faculty members. We encourage prospective applicants to contact faculty within their field of interest to inquire if grant-funded positions will be available.
Travel Awards for Professional Meetings and Doctoral Research
The Baylor University Graduate School supports doctoral students and their original research through two kinds of travel support for students who are formally registered for credit hours.
- Travel to Professional Meetings supports the presentation of findings of graduate-student research.
- Travel to Support Doctoral Research supports travel for doctoral research directly related to the completion of a candidate’s dissertation.
