BSEd in Middle/Secondary Education
The Secondary Education major is ideal for individuals with a strong interest in teaching students in a specific subject matter. The program prepares highly qualified teachers in these certification areas:
- English, Language Arts, Reading
- Mathematics for Middle Grades (4-8)
- Mathematics for Secondary Grades (7-12)
- Science
- Social Studies (history)
Graduates earn a BSEd and may choose to prepare for secondary certification (7-12) or middle grades certification (4-8) in their specific subject area. The program can be completed during the standard four-year collegiate experience.
Official admission to the Teacher Preparation Programs occurs at the end of the sophomore year, when formal application for acceptance is submitted.

Faculty-guided Field Experiences
Field experiences begin the first semester and are layered with progressively more complex situations, so that preservice teacher candidates have sustained opportunities to deepen and expand their knowledge for the subject and effective teaching practices. Field experiences culminate in a yearlong teaching internship that makes Baylor graduate uniquely qualified to assume a position of leadership in teaching.
