4+1 BSEd-MSEd in Elementary Education
Baylor’s Accelerated 4+1 BSEd-MSEd program in Elementary Education is ideal for aspiring educators who want to delve more deeply into a scholarly understanding of education history, theory, and practice before they enter the classroom. It combines the existing Baylor BSEd in elementary education with the existing MSEd in curriculum and instruction, allowing students to plan ahead by earning early acceptance to the graduate program and finishing the MSEd a semester early. While traditional MSEd students finish in August, 4+1 students will finish in May.
Both the BSEd and MSEd degrees are full-time residential programs. Students in the 4+1 plan will receive their BSEd degree on schedule (typically in May) and then receive the MSEd the following May. They will take nine hours of graduate-level courses during their undergraduate junior and senior year to accelerate the schedule.
Accepted students receive significant tuition scholarship support for the MSEd degree.
Requirements and Curriculum
To earn an Accelerated BSEd/MSEd in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in elementary education, a student must apply in their sophomore year and complete all requirements for the BSED degree with a major in Elementary Education, as well as additional coursework at the graduate level.
Students enrolled in the BSEd-MSEd program fulfill all the requirements of their undergraduate major (124 credit hours), and they will also complete an additional 36 hours of graduate study.
A maximum of 9 credits of graduate coursework will count toward both degrees and will be taken during the undergraduate junior and senior years.
