Jee Kyung Suh

Dr. Jee Kyung Suh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Baylor University. Her research focuses on the development of adaptive teaching expertise, teachers’ epistemic orientations, and the integration of science education within technology-enhanced and interdisciplinary STEM learning environments.

Dr. Suh has led and collaborated on multiple research initiatives as both PI and co-PI. Her recent work has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the project Moving Beyond Pedagogy, which advances elementary teachers’ adaptive expertise through a comprehensive professional development model. Building on this foundation, she also leads a project focused on the development of a Technology-Empowered Decision-making (TED) system — an innovative tool designed to support teachers in making timely, data-informed adaptive decisions. In addition, Dr. Suh spearheads several initiatives that promote community-based, sustainable energy education through interdisciplinary and place-based approaches.

Her scholarly work has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Science Education, Teaching and Teacher Education, and the International Journal of Science Education. Her excellence in academic mentorship has also been recognized with awards such as the Excellence in Academic Advising Award from the University of Alabama. 

Before joining the faculty at Baylor, Dr. Suh served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama, where she was deeply engaged in STEM education research, teacher preparation, and curriculum innovation. Her professional experience also includes teaching across multiple grade levels — from pre-K through 8th grade — in both public and private school settings. Dr. Suh earned her Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning, with a concentration in science education, from the University of Iowa, where she also completed advanced degrees in educational measurement and statistics.

Dr. Suh is dedicated to advancing science education through research and practice that foster adaptive expertise, interdisciplinary innovation, and meaningful impact on teaching and learning.
